If you want to reset a timer or turn off the heat when you leave home, your tablet or smart phone can send the message to the thermostat.

You are also alerted when a familiar person enters the home. Your pet can even be monitored.
You can also lock and unlock doors and windows using a phone app. This is very helpful if you are returning home with an armful of groceries and it is difficult to use your door key. Your smart phone may also be used to lock your home or your car.
Window coverings and lights can be controlled on timers or through your mobile device if you are away from home for an extended period of time.
Another wired system can alert you to fire, CO2 problems, water leaks and flooding when you are not home. The apps work with smoke alarms and water sensors.

Kitchens and bathrooms

You can start your dishwasher or washing machine remotely if you forget to start it before you leave home. This smartphone app allows you to communicate with the appliances and control the settings.
A smart home can have a remote to start the shower to warm it before you get in. A remote can also start a whirlpool tub or steam shower. Your water use can also be monitored.

Entertainment
